Minoxidil tablets were made for high blood pressure. At much lower doses, dermatologists now prescribe them off-label for hair loss. In a study of 1,404 patients on low-dose oral minoxidil, the most common side effect was unwanted hair growth on the face or body (about 15%), followed by lightheadedness and fluid retention, each in under 2%[1].

In the PH, tablets often come from Facebook or email resellers with no brand on the pack. Users report refusing tablets when "the derm didn't say the brand"[2]. A prescription from a doctor who names the product, and who checks your blood pressure and heart history, is the safer route.
