PRP hair treatment in the Philippines: worth it?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) concentrates platelets from your own blood and injects them into the scalp. Users on r/PhHairloss report about ₱10,000 per session[1], and clinics usually recommend a series. Some trials show more hair in treated areas[2][3], but protocols vary widely, so most people treat PRP as an add-on to finasteride or minoxidil, not a replacement.
What PRP is
A nurse or doctor draws a tube of your blood, spins it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and injects that plasma into thinning areas of the scalp. Platelets carry growth factors, and the idea is that these nudge weak follicles back into growth[3]. It is often marketed as "vampire" hair treatment.
What it costs in the PH
| Item | Price | Per month | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| PRP for hair | ₱10,000per session (about) | Not monthly | User report |
The figure above comes from a user report on r/PhHairloss[1]. Clinics usually sell PRP as a series of sessions followed by maintenance, so the total is several times the per-session price. Ask for the full package price, how many sessions, and what happens after. [TODO: price for PRP packages at named PH clinics].
| Option | Reported cost |
|---|---|
| PRP | ₱10,000 per session[1] |
| Topical minoxidil (Regroe 5% 60ml) | ₱600 to ₱900 a month |
| Finasteride 1mg (Stercia) | ₱1,800 a month |
| Dermatologist consult | ₱400 to ₱1,000[4] |
What the evidence shows
In a small half-head, placebo-controlled trial, men with pattern hair loss grew more hair on the PRP-treated side than on the placebo side[2]. A later review of the research found PRP may help androgenetic alopecia, but noted that studies use different preparation methods, injection schedules and outcome measures, which makes results hard to compare[3].
- Protocols vary. There is no agreed number of sessions, spacing or platelet concentration. Two clinics selling "PRP" may be selling different treatments.
- Studies are small. Most trials have dozens of patients, not thousands like the finasteride trials[5].
- Effects fade. Results usually need maintenance sessions, which adds to the lifetime cost.
Compare that with finasteride and minoxidil, which have large randomized trials behind them[5][6]. If you have not tried those first, PRP is an expensive place to start. See minoxidil vs finasteride.
What PH users say
We found no first-hand Filipino reports of Belo's hair PRP. Belo's Reddit reputation comes from skin threads, where users call it expensive[7].
Clinic hard sells“I wasted 120k in Svenson and nothing happened.”
Several users describe free consults that turn into large packages with no lab tests and no doctor. A PDS board-certified dermatologist can diagnose the cause, order tests and prescribe first-line treatment for the price of a consult. Ask who will examine you and whether they are a licensed physician before paying.[9][8][4]
Who might consider it
- People already on finasteride and minoxidil who want to try an add-on and can afford it.
- Women with pattern hair loss who cannot use finasteride, after discussing options with a derm. See female hair loss.
- Transplant patients whose surgeon suggests it. See hair transplant cost.
PRP is not a fit for shedding from a recent illness or birth, which usually settles on its own[10]. Take the hairfall self-check first. Patchy loss needs a dermatologist to diagnose it[11].
What a session is like
- Blood is drawn from your arm, usually a small tube or a few.
- The tube is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich layer.
- The scalp is cleaned, and some clinics apply numbing cream or use cold air.
- The plasma is injected in many small points across the thinning area. Some clinics combine it with microneedling.
- You go home the same day. Most clinics ask you not to wash or color your hair for a short time afterward.
Questions to ask the clinic
- Who performs the injection, and is that person a licensed physician? You can check on the PRC site[12].
- How is the PRP prepared, and is the kit single-use?
- How many sessions, how far apart, and what is the total price including maintenance?
- How will you measure my result? Ask for standard photos before the first session.
- Should I be on finasteride or minoxidil as well, and if not, why not?
- What happens if I see no change after the first series?
How to judge your result
Hair grows slowly, so do not judge after one session. Clinics and trials usually look at results months after the first series[2]. Take photos in the same light, angle and hair length before you start and every month after. If you started minoxidil or finasteride at the same time, you will not know which one helped. That is fine for your hair, but worth knowing before you pay for more PRP.
Remember that pattern hair loss is ongoing. Any gain from PRP is likely to fade without maintenance, in the same way that gains from minoxidil fade after stopping[13]. Factor that into the lifetime cost, and compare it on our prices page.
Side effects and safety
Common effects are pain at the injection sites, scalp tenderness and mild swelling for a day or two. Because PRP uses your own blood, allergy is unlikely, but sterile technique matters. Tell the doctor about blood thinners and bleeding disorders. For side effects of the medicines PRP is paired with, see the side effects hub.
PRP is not recommended for everyone. People with low platelet counts, blood disorders, active scalp infection or certain cancers are usually advised against it. Pregnant women should ask their doctor first. A licensed physician should take your history before the first session, not just your payment.
Other add-ons
Microneedling is a cheaper add-on with small trials behind it; see the derma roller guide. Exosomes are newer and less studied; see the exosome guide. For the full treatment ladder, read hair loss treatment and the minoxidil guide. Compare all costs on prices, and if you want a doctor's view first, see online hair loss doctors.

Questions people ask
How much is PRP hair treatment in the Philippines?
Users on r/PhHairloss report about ₱10,000 per session[1]. Clinics usually sell a series, so ask for the full package price.
Does PRP really work for hair loss?
Some trials show more hair in treated areas[2], but studies are small and use different methods[3]. It is best viewed as an add-on to proven treatments.
How many PRP sessions do I need?
There is no agreed protocol; clinics vary in the number and spacing of sessions[3]. Most also recommend maintenance sessions.
Is PRP better than minoxidil?
Minoxidil has larger and more consistent trial evidence[6] and costs far less per month. Many people use PRP, if at all, alongside minoxidil or finasteride.
Is PRP painful?
Most people feel the injections and have a tender scalp for a day or two. Clinics may use numbing cream or a cold device.
